Our Story

Women's Storybook Project of Texas

The Women's Storybook Project is a small non-profit with a big impact!  We connect children to their incarcerated mothers through the joy of literature - read aloud.  Recent studies show that a child's ability to communicate socially is affected by how he or she reacts to their mother's voice.  The children our program is designed for are missing the presence of their mothers in their lives.  If not for our program, they may not hear their mother read aloud for years of their childhood, if ever.    In 2019, over 1,300 moms read stories aloud to their children and sent them messages of love and care.  Over 3,600 books and recordings were sent, all over Texas, and beyond our state to children in need.  Over 8,000 volunteer hours were donated to make this amazing magic happen.  The Storybook Project needs your help to continue its success! Volunteers are in need of new laptop computers to continue our work at the nine units where we are currently installed and in our 10th unit due to begin this Spring. Working technology is vital to our mission. Please help us fund this important piece of the puzzle to keep delivering Good Night Moon, Amelia Bedelia and the Magic and the Magic Treehouse stories to children who really need to hear their mom's voice!
